Artist Spotlight Featuring John Mascarenhas

July 24, 2009 | Thoughts & Words By | 8 Comments

John Mascarenhas has style. There is an innate dark, tongue-in-cheek humor element in most of his brilliant illustrations. He has been sketching since he was 7, but much to the chagrin of his grandmother who was an artist and rendered beautiful paintings effortlessly, John was into cartooning and the humorous side of the spectrum. He was constantly getting into trouble at school because of his doodling ways. In his own words "In school I’ve always failed in biology. The reason? All my journal entries looked like Bill Waterson had done a make-over to them. The frogs looked thrilled being dead! Cockroaches had intestines that danced!"

Unflattering sketches of his professors during class continued John’s woes in college. The only reprive was his popularity with girls because he was quite generous with proportions when he sketched them. John started his professional career in an advertising agency, McCann Ericsson. But you know what they say about creatives. They need to do their own thing to unleash the complete power of their creativity. After picking up skills along the way, participating in contests and directly working for clients, John floated his own designing agency Logo Guppy.

Today I am showcasing some of my favorite illustrations of John Mascarenhas. Head over to his portfolio website Logo Guppy to see more of his work. You can also stalk him on Twitter where he tweets as @LogoGuppy. Don’t forget to stop by our very first contest "Get Yourself Cartoonized!". As you can see for yourself, John does amazing caricatures and he has graciously offered to Cartoonize 5 very lucky people.
