I feel the big trend of 2010 will be speed. In November 2009 Google declared that download page times were an important aspect for web masters to take into consideration so frontend engineering will really develop into a field of its own. Oh, and lots more CSS3 and HTML5 goodies coming for 2010 too.

My vote goes for social media integration... I really can't remember when was the last time I visited any site via a direct link or a search result reference... though the magazine style multiplied by social media must give interesting results... Let's keep an eye on it

Thanks for the vote of confidence on LBOI. I appreciate that Robin :)

It is a very catch 22 situation in my opinion, this trends business. When the first guy comes out with it, he has vision and it is a refreshing idea. Then it becomes a trend. But then a trend doesn't necessarily mean everything is going to end up looking like each other. "Quirkiness", "Mixed Media" are just mediums or ways of expressing one's self, very generic trends. But how you express it can make one website look like the sun and the other like the moon. Trends don't necessarily mean design becomes derivative. [Well, it does for a lot of people], but good design takes trends and the new worlds it opens up to evolve into its own personality. I hope that makes sense ..lol. I haven't had my 2nd cuppa and I am rambling :)
